This mesh tea ball serves as a sustainable and weight saving alternative to disposable teabags.
It fills with loose leaf tea and immerses in a cup just like a regular tea bag.
To use:
- Undo the clasp and open the ball into halves
- Fill half with loose leaf tea
- Close and clasp shut
- Dangle into a cup of hot water
It is available in 3 sizes, but other shapes are available - i.e this one.
Specifications
- Stainless steel and stainless steel mesh material
- Attached chain with clip at the end
- 3 sizes
Pros
- Convenient, compact, and easy to use
- Make a wide variety of beverages . e.g.:
- Probably equal or better performance to a tea bag
- Save money by buying loose leaf tea, or use the savings to buy better quality tea
Cons
- Ball-style infusers don't work as well as other, less portable types - e.g. a brew basket
- Tea is all bunched up inside it - not ideal for brewing
- If you overfill them, the tea leaves will swell and maybe jam it shut
- The holes are not ultra fine - small particles can still get through
- Not as convenient as a teabag
- Wet tea leaves might be a pain to deal with if packing
them out.. probably have to squeeze them a bit before packing them up
- Fine mesh can become dented in transport or storage (doesn't affect usage, and can easily push it out again)
- Loose leaf tea needs more careful storage than tea bags
